When you write to me

There is no form on this site, only an email link. When you write, I have your address and the contents of your message — the same as with any other email.

I use it for two things: to reply, and if it turns into working together, to agree the terms. The first because someone who writes to me expects an answer; the second because a contract can’t be prepared without it. I don’t sell your messages, don’t pass them on, and don’t use them to send you anything you didn’t ask for.

I keep messages for about three years, which is roughly how long it can still be useful to look up what we agreed. If you’d like them gone sooner, write and I’ll delete them.

Who else can reach it

Nobody who would do anything with it themselves. Technically, though, messages pass through an email provider and the site runs on a server — they have access in the same sense a building manager has access to the boxes stored inside. My mail is handled by Zoho on their European servers, and the site runs on a server in the European Union. Nothing travels outside it.

What the site stores in your browser

Four things, all of which stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere:

• your choice of light or dark mode, so it isn’t lost next time you visit,
• your position on the page when you switch language, so you stay where you were reading,
• which page of the list you have open, so you don’t land back on the first one after returning from an article,
• the time of day and weather in the scene on the right, so it doesn’t start the same way every time you reload, and whether your computer keeps up with drawing it.

These aren’t cookies, they aren’t sent with any request to a server, and nothing about who you are can be derived from them. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them.

Analytics

I measure traffic on my own server rather than through someone else’s service. That means no cookies, no stored IP addresses, and no data leaving my machine. What interests me is which pages people read and where they came from, not who they are. I do it because otherwise I have no idea whether writing more is worth the trouble.

You won’t find Google Analytics or anything like it here. Which is also why there is no consent banner: there is nothing to consent to.

No automated decisions

Nothing I know about you goes through automated decision-making or profiling. I answer emails myself and I don’t sort anyone into categories.

Your rights

You can ask what data I hold about you and get a copy of it. You can have it corrected or deleted, restrict what I do with it, or object to my processing it. You can also ask me to hand it over in a machine-readable form.

Write to me and I’ll sort it out; the law gives me a month, but it will usually be much sooner. If you feel I’m handling it badly, you can complain to the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection, Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Prague 7, uoou.gov.cz.
